Romanias beer market steady y/y in H1.

By bne IntelliNews September 8, 2011
Romanias beer market remained constant on the year at 8mn hl, Mediafax reported, quoting data from the Romanian beer industry association Berarii Romaniei. The producers thus managed to put an end to the years-long decline of consumption. The industry association commented on the stabilisation as being the result of producers, adapting to the new consumption habits and improving their communication, but admit that the diminished effects of the economic crisis also contributed. The beer market plunged by some 16% from 20.2mn hl in 2008. Last year alone, the beer sales dropped by 3.5% y/y in volume to 17mn hl. Some 99% of the market is covered by local producers, most of them controlled by foreign groups that, however, maintained the existing local brands in parallel wit the introduction of own brands.
