Iran and Oman signed 18 cooperation documents, aiming to formalise and expand bilateral relations across a wide array of sectors during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's official visit to the Sultanate on May 27.
Oman is one of the few Gulf Arab neighbours with which Tehran has had consistently good relations in recent years, with the current administration's trust.
The agreements cover legal, economic, political, cultural, educational, health, defence, media, technology, energy, and mining fields, according to the Iranian Presidential website.
Adding a symbolic touch to the strengthening ties, a joint commemorative stamp of Iran and Oman was unveiled on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, symbolising the deep cultural and historical connections between the two nations.
President Pezeshkian, who arrived in Muscat on May 27, led a high-level political and economic delegation for the two-day visit.
During his bilateral meeting with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, President Pezeshkian emphasised Iran's readiness to expand cooperation in all fields.
"Each of us has capacities that we can use for the prosperity and progress of each other and other nations in the region, and in such a case, no foreign power will be able to dominate Muslim nations," he said.
Acknowledging the finite nature of fossil fuels, President Pezeshkian urged businessmen and industrialists from both countries to plan for future generations by strengthening long-term economic foundations.
Pezeshkian also expressed appreciation for Oman's "good efforts" in mediating the indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, voicing hope for positive outcomes from the process.
Oman has hosted five rounds of these talks in Muscat and its diplomatic residence in Rome.
"Iran has full confidence in Oman, and this trust makes the responsibility of the two sides to strengthen relations and pursue understandings heavier," Pezeshkian remarked.
For his part, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq welcomed the Iranian delegation, highlighting the importance of developing relations between the ports of Iran and Oman.
He also stressed the commercial significance of Iran's north-south railway capacity for Oman.
The Sultan called for increased support for cooperation in the energy and military sectors between the two countries. Regarding Oman's mediating role, he stressed that Muscat acts solely with benevolent intentions, pursuing no personal interest in the process.
