The US Embassy in Baghdad denied closing its compound on June 20, reaffirming its commitment to advancing American policy priorities in Iraq, an official press release stated.

The embassy wrote on its official X platform account that "there has been no change to the operational status of the embassy in Baghdad and the consulate general in Erbil," Baghdad Today reported.

"The United States remains firmly committed to advancing its policy priorities in Iraq, strengthening its sovereignty, and engaging with Iraqi leaders and the Iraqi people," the embassy added.

The denial followed Iraqi media reports claiming the American embassy in Baghdad evacuated its remaining staff outside Iraq and closed its doors, transferring responsibility for the embassy building to the US military.

Videos seen by IntelliNews of two CH-47 aircraft "Chinooks" reportedly evacuated embassy staff from the compound, known as the Third Unity Base or American Embassy, according to local social media accounts.

The alleged evacuation operations came 24 hours after a threatening tweet in English by Abu Ali al-Askari, the security official for Hezbollah Brigades, who warned against American presence if the US committed "foolishness" and intervened in the Israeli war against Iran.

The timing of evacuation reports coincided with escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with the US maintaining diplomatic efforts to prevent regional conflict expansion.

American diplomatic facilities in Iraq have previously faced security concerns due to Iranian-aligned militia activities in the country.

The US embassy compound in Baghdad's Green Zone houses one of America's largest diplomatic missions globally since the 2003 invasion.

Iraqi militias have periodically targeted American interests in Iraq, including embassy compounds and military bases hosting US forces.
