US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that Israeli and American representatives have discussed conditions for his Gaza ceasefire plan, with Israel agreeing to necessary terms for a 60-day ceasefire implementation.
"Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War," Trump wrote. Qatar and Egypt are set to deliver the final proposal to Hamas, with Trump warning the militant group that conditions would not improve if rejected.
"I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE," Trump stated.
According to Israel’s N12 political commentator Dana Weiss, the current proposal represents an "improved Witkoff" plan. Under the first phase, eight hostages would be released alive, with an additional two hostages freed on the 50th day.
The primary remaining obstacle involves guarantees for ending the conflict permanently, the Israeli news outlet continued. Negotiators are still seeking terms that would satisfy Hamas's concerns about Israel resuming military operations after the ceasefire period expires.
Hamas sources told Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that if a temporary agreement is reached, broader negotiations for a complete war termination would begin immediately, involving Hamas, US mediators, and the Palestinian Authority.
Should an agreement be reached, it would advance the US administration's agenda of ending conflict in the Middle East while also boosting Israel's security prospects.
Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire in November 2024, bringing an end to the skirmishes across the Israel-Lebanon border.
This was followed up by the ceasefire negotiated by US President Donald Trump between Israel and Iran.
With hostilities in the Middle East seeming to simmer down, the prospect of expanding the Abraham Accords seems to be rising, with Israel expressing an openness to achieving peace deals with Syria and Lebanon.
