Romania confirms Q1 GDP growth at 5.7% y/y

Romania’s statistics office has confirmed a 5.7% y/y rise in GDP for Q1 (at comparable prices) and revised upward the value of the quarter’s GDP by 1.9% to RON203.6bn (€44.5bn).

Among the most notable revisions compared to the first Q1 GDP estimate issued on June 7, domestic consumption, particularly private direct consumption, was revised upward. The contribution of households’ consumption to the GDP growth was revised from 4.8pp to 5.3pp. 

The formation of gross fixed capital was revised slightly downward; namely, its contribution to GDP growth was revised to a negative 0.2pp from negative 0.1pp under the first Q1 GDP estimate in June.

In annual terms, households’ consumption increased by real 7.3% y/y, compared to 6.7% y/y estimated in June. Total consumption (the government’s consumption included) was revised to 6.7% y/y from 5.9% y/y. The gross fixed capital formation’s dynamics was revised from a 0.7% y/y decline to 1% y/y decline.
