Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has received death threats via an anonymous email sent to the presidency in recent days, branding her an “anti-constitutional criminal”, according to a statement from her office, Koha.net reported on May 19.

The threats were sent at a time when Kosovo is in deep political crisis, with MPs repeatedly failing to elect a speaker after the general election earlier this year.

Presidential media advisor Bekim Kupina was cited as saying that the threat is part of a long-standing pattern of intimidation against Osmani. He strongly criticised the country's justice institutions for what he described as consistent failure to act.

"Despite dozens of threats — most of them life threats — no action has been taken against the perpetrators for years," said Kupina.

"This, even though in most cases, the threats are made by name, surname, and from identifiable profiles. Some have even been made on television, yet still there has been no accountability."

Kupina added that, according to security institutions, this represents a unique and troubling precedent. “This is the only case in the history of the institutions where none of the individuals responsible for such threats have faced justice.”

He warned that the lack of institutional response fosters a dangerous climate. “When serious threats are ignored, they do not stop — they grow. This encourages further incitement to violence, open calls for physical elimination, and deepens disrespect for the constitutional order,” Kupina concluded.
