An unnamed Iranian official said that the fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States will take place on May 11, in Muscat, state news agency ISNA reported on May 6.

The knowledgeable official stated that the fourth round of indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States will be held in the Omani capital.

These negotiations, which follow three rounds of intensive consultations in recent months, will focus directly on humanitarian issues and certain security concerns of both parties.

The talks come after earlier rounds held in Muscat and Rome, where delegations led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff engaged in Oman-mediated discussions focused on Iran's nuclear programme and sanctions relief.

Previous rounds were described as "constructive" and "positive" by both sides, with technical expert-level discussions also taking place to address specific issues related to uranium enrichment levels and sanctions mechanisms.

The announcement of the talks follows a cancellation of talks between the two countries.

US President Donald Trump has threatened sanctions against any country or individual purchasing Iranian oil or petrochemical products, escalating pressure on Tehran, Reuters reported on May 2.

"All purchases of Iranian oil or petrochemical products must stop, NOW!" Trump wrote on his Truth social platform, warning that those who proceed with such transactions would face sweeping US penalties.
