US President Donald Trump has announced on social media that Israel and Iran have agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire" to be phased in over 24 hours, but Iranian officials have not confirmed any such agreement.

Trump said on Truth Social on June 23 that the ceasefire would bring an "Official END" to the 10-day conflict. The announcement came hours after Iran launched a missile attack on a US military base in Qatar, retaliating for American strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.

US media reported that a senior Iranian official said Iran has not received any ceasefire proposal and that Iran is planning to intensify its strikes on Israel.

The Islamic Republic's foreign ministry previously stated there was "no room for negotiations with the US until Israeli aggression stops".

Iran's mission to the United Nations denied earlier Trump claims, posting on social media: "No Iranian official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of the White House. The only thing more despicable than his lies is his cowardly threat to 'take out' Iran's Supreme Leader."

The conflict began on June 13 when Israel launched attacks on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. The US struck several key Iranian nuclear sites early on 22 June, including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

Qatar confirmed Iran fired 19 missiles at the US Al Udeid Air Base late on June 23, with Qatari air defences intercepting 18 projectiles. The base had been evacuated, resulting in no casualties. Trump said 14 missiles were fired, with 13 knocked down and one "set free".

Iranian officials have consistently told mediators Qatar and Oman they are not open to negotiating whilst under attack.

Reuters reported on June 16 that Tehran told mediators it would only pursue serious negotiations once Iran had completed its response to Israeli strikes.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported extensive damage to Iran's nuclear programme. Rafael Grossi, director general of the agency, told the BBC it was very likely all roughly 15,000 centrifuges at Iran's biggest uranium enrichment plant at Natanz were badly damaged or destroyed.

Trump previously said Israel was "doing well in terms of war" whilst Iran was "doing less well".
