South African regulator found that 17 millers fixed the prices of white corn

SouthAfricas Competition Commission found that 17 millers fixed white corn pricesregionally and nationally and recommended that most be prosecuted. Tiger BrandsLtd and Premier Foods Ltd were granted conditional immunity for cooperatingwith the investigation, Bloomberg reported. White corn is the local staplefood. The commission referred evidence to the Competition Tribunal with arecommended penalty of 10% of each companys 2009 fiscal-year sales. Thetribunal will rule on the commissions findings. The countrys Chamber ofMilling said local millers processed 2.73mn metric tons of corn in the seasonto April-end 2009 and 1.65mn tons in the first seven months of this season.
