Romania to decide on new euro adoption deadline.

By bne IntelliNews March 21, 2013
Romania has set up a committee that should draft within several months a new schedule for the country's adoption of the single European currency, state secretary at the finance ministry Claudiu Doltu announced as quoted by news agency Agerpres. Currently, Romania's accession target is January 2014 - but this deadline became unrealistic by default. PM Victor Ponta has mentioned recently the year 2020 as a more credible target. President Traian Basescu, however, insisted on a quick accession. Nonetheless, the schedule might not include a firm accession date, Doltu stressed. It is, nonetheless, the first time that the country sets up a formal committee including government, central bank, business and civil society representatives to decide on this issue.
