Macedonias retail trade turnover down by nominal 6.6% y/y in March 2012.

Macedonias retail trade turnover dropped by a nominal 6.6% y/y in March, reversing a 1.1% y/y increase in February, data from the statistics office showed. In real terms, the retail trade turnover dropped by 7.6% y/y in March, a significantly wider decrease than 1.2% y/y in the previous month. Retail trade accounted for 47% of total distributive trade turnover in March. On the other hand, wholesale trade turnover rose by a nominal 13% on the year in March, accelerating from 9.7% in the previous month. Wholesale trade accounted for 47% of total distributive trade turnover. Turnover of trade in and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles accounted for the remaining 6% of the total. Turnover in this subsector decreased by a nominal 6.9% y/y in March, a significantly narrower contraction than 19.4% y/y in February.
