EE: Estonian residents use payment cards for 47.5% of payments.

Estonian residents pay 47.5% of all payments with a bank card, research from SEB bank shows. In Latvia 30.4% of all payments are done by card, and in Lithuania 26.8% of all payments. Triin Messimas, bank expert at SEB bank, indicated that cards are more popular in densely populated areas. Messimas added that in Lithuania the population is more evenly spread, and in rural areas people withdraw cash to pay for services. According to the research the more ATMs region has, the less cash is withdrawn. In Estonia there are 0.7 ATMs per thousand of residents, in Latvia there are 0.6 ATM per thousand people, and in Lithuania there are 0.4.
