H.Essers, a European company operating in the field of transport and logistics, plans to open an IT centre in Moldova, the local investment agency announced.
The group has already operated a business process outsourcing (BPO) office since 2008. The centre deals with web page maintenance, data processing but also with shipping and transport operations, according to Mold-Street.com.
Daniela Vicol, the group’s country manager for Moldova, said that H. Essers decided to invest in Moldova, encouraged by the success achieved by the country’s IT sector. The many Belgium companies also investing in Moldova and the abundance of IT specialists were also considered, she added.
Over the past four years, Moldova’s IT industry has been supported by the government through fiscal incentives.
Founded by Henri Essers in 1928, the group is one of the most important transport operators in Belgium and in Europe. It is active in 19 countries with a fleet of 1,440 trucks and warehouses with an area of 1,300,000 square meters.
However, the company is suspected of involvement in a tobacco smuggling scandal in Romania, according to Radio Free Europe. The case is reportedly being investigated by Romania's Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism.
