A total of 779,365 tourists visited Serbia in January-May 2011, up 9% y/y, the country's National Tourism Organization informed. The number of domestic tourists was 518,616, up 5% y/y, and accounted for 67% of all tourist arrivals. The number of foreign tourists was up 16% y/y. The total number of overnights in the period was 2.5mn, up 14% y/y. Overnights of domestic tourists were 1.9mn, up 13% y/y, and accounted for 77% of all overnights. Overnights of foreign tourists were up 18% y/y. The most popular destination among domestic tourists was Zlatibor with 174,435 overnights, up 41% y/y. The capital Belgrade was most popular among foreign tourists with 312,242 overnights, up 13% y/y. The majority of foreign tourists to Serbia were from Bosnia and Herzegovina - 63,979 overnights, up 27% y/y. Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia followed with 51, 085, 47,905 and 38,677 overnights, respectively. |
