Total employment in Slovakia increased by 0.2% y/y in the second quarter of 2012 to 2.216mn people, following a 0.6% growth in the previous quarter, flash estimates of the statistics office showed. On a seasonally-adjusted basis, the employment in Q2 grew 0.3% from a year ago but remained flat from the previous three months. The statistics office said it will publish more detailed employment figures on September 6. IntelliNews comment : Slovakia has one of the highest jobless rate in the EU. According to the latest figures by the labour ministry, the countrys unemployment rate rose to 13.34% in June from 13.19% in May. The unfavourable situation on the labour market ranks among the countrys biggest problems, as the unemployment remains relatively high and dampens household consumption, which dents economic growth.
