Romanian market regulator sets 10% gas price hike for non-residential users.

By bne IntelliNews June 27, 2011
The Romanian natural gas market regulator announced an average 10% price hike for the non-residential users as of July, invoking higher import prices and the governments bill that require preferential use of domestic, cheaper gas for residential users, Agerpres announced, quoting an ANRE release. We recall that this price is the regulated price paid by the so-called captive non-residential users that cannot negotiate direct contracts with gas suppliers. The price of the imported gas increased since the latest update of the end-user natural gas prices from USD 290 to EUR 460 per 1,000 cubic meters, ANRE explained. Also, the non-residential users will have to use 23% imported gas in July, compared to only 11% for the residential users under the emergency ordinance, passed by the government last week with the aim of maintaining constant prices for the residential users for the coming nine months, starting July, ANRE added. The district heating firms will benefit from the same price for natural gas as the residential users, according to the governments ordinance.
