Uzbekistan Railways pushes development of Central Asia – South Caucasus – Anatolia CASCA+ transit corridor
Uzbekistan Railways has put forward a proposal to establish a consortium to coordinate the activities of the Central Asia –South Caucasus – Anatolia (CASCA+) transit corridor.
The matter was raised at a CASCA+ meeting of representatives of the railway administrations of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey on the development of freight traffic along the corridor held last week.
Projects that could develop the transit route were discussed.
One proposal put forward was a plan to establish transportation of perishable (fruit and vegetable) cargoes in refrigerated containers along the CASCA+ corridor and create a system of online monitoring of wagon and container corridor location.
An ultimate goal of CASCA+ is to connect the transport route to China and the countries of Southeast Asia in the east and countries of Europe in the west.
A difficulty is that efforts to realise the long-sought China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) appear to be going nowhere fast.
