Cambodia has approved more than $1bn worth of renewable energy projects in the first half of 2026, strengthening its clean energy capacity and supporting broader investment growth.

According to Kiripost, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved five renewable energy projects valued at over $1bn between January and June. The developments include solar, wind and biomass facilities across Pursat, Mondulkiri and Stung Treng provinces.

In a statement issued on July 14, the CDC said the projects comprise a $226mn, 350-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Pursat, alongside two wind farms in Mondulkiri, each with a capacity of 150 MW, valued at $200mn and $186mn respectively.

The approved portfolio also includes a combined $131mn investment in a 50 MW biomass plant and a 40 MW solar facility in Pursat, as well as a $300mn, 200 MW solar power project in Stung Treng.

The renewable energy approvals form part of a wider investment pipeline recorded during the first six months of the year. The CDC said Cambodia registered 276 investment projects with a combined value of around $4.7bn, which are expected to generate approximately 160,000 jobs.

Of the approved projects, 105 are located outside special economic zones (SEZs), while seven involve the establishment of new SEZs and 69 will be developed within existing zones.

Domestic investors accounted for the largest share of approved investment, contributing around 42% of the total registered capital. Chinese investors ranked second with 36%, followed by Singapore at 15% and Malaysia at four percent.

The latest approvals reflect Cambodia’s continued efforts to attract investment into renewable energy while expanding electricity generation capacity and supporting long-term economic development.
