Cloud provider Bubble Cloud Mozambique will operate two availability zones in the country after becoming the only company licensed in the advanced category by the National Information and Communication Technology Institute (INTIC), AIM reported on July 23.

The licence marks the first application of a regulatory framework INTIC drew up with the Mozambican Banking Association to govern data centres and cloud operators, at a point when Maputo is pressing banks and government bodies to keep critical data inside the country rather than on foreign infrastructure. INTIC licensed 19 entities in the first phase, from around 170 registered in the system.

The facilities are in Maputo City and Beluluane in Maputo Province. Bubble was formed in 2023 as a joint venture between South Africa's Strategix Technology Solutions and Mozambican firm Triana Business Solutions.

Speaking at the BFSI Mozambique 2026 conference, part of the Digital Transformation and Interoperable Financial Ecosystem Forum, Bubble business development director Cameron Smith said the dual-site model would improve security and business continuity.

"An availability zone is an independent data centre built to operate autonomously," Smith said. "In the event of a failure at one location, services can continue operating from the second infrastructure, mitigating the risk of downtime."

Organisations would be able to distribute systems and data across separate physical locations, strengthening availability, disaster recovery and cybersecurity, he said.

Smith said the project would encourage more companies to keep applications and data within Mozambique, Lusa.

Bubble provides cloud infrastructure, data backup and disaster recovery services. Bubble Cloud Mozambique was created in 2023 as a joint venture between South Africa's Strategix Technology Solutions and Mozambican firm Triana Business Solutions.

Beluluane Industrial Park, in Matola about 20 km from central Maputo, sits along the main fibre route and already hosts Raxio Group's Mozambican data centre.
