Hamdi Ulukaya, the billionaire owner of US-based yoghurt maker Chobani, is set to acquire a mansion on the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul for a consideration of $45mn, according to local media reports.
The mansion, located in Beykoz district on the Anatolian side of the strait, was built by the late businessman Feyyaz Tokar.
Ulukaya leased the mansion for $0.12mn per month from January this year. He paid the annual rent in advance and acquired an option to buy the real estate.
According to the media reports, he has launched the process to exercise this option.
In 2012, Ahmet Okumus, another Turkish-American businessman, acquired the mansion for a consideration of $25mn.
In 2022, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich rented the mansion for $50,000 per month.
In July this year, Turkey’s deposit insurance fund TMSF sold another Bosphorus mansion, located in Bebek district on the European side of the strait, to Oyak Cimento (OYAKC) for a consideration of Turkish lira (TRY) 1.1bn ($34mn).
