US, Saudi Arabia to sign civil nuclear deal opening door to uranium enrichment

DP World has secured a loan of up to €25mn ($28mn) from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) towards a €100mn programme to electrify its Constanta South Container Terminal in Romania, the company said on July 21.
The green loan, the terminal's first, comes as Constanta gains strategic weight as an alternative gateway for cargo moving between Central Europe, the Black Sea, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, with operator Constanta South Container Terminal (CSCT) holding the concession until 2049.
The programme aims to cut the terminal's CO2 emissions by more than 6,000 tonnes a year by replacing diesel-powered equipment with electric alternatives and introducing shore-side power for vessels at berth.
The EBRD loan is complemented by a €19.7mn grant under the European Union's Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, part of the Connecting Europe Facility, with the EBRD acting as the EU's implementing partner. A further €7.5mn comes through Romania's Transport Programme 2021-2027, with the balance funded from the company's own resources.
"We are delighted to partner with DP World on this first transaction to support the modernisation of the Port of Constanta and demonstrate that competitiveness and decarbonisation can go hand in hand," said EBRD Regional Director for Romania Victoria Zinchuk, describing the deal as a landmark investment for the country's logistics sector.
The investment comprises two components. The first, worth €53.8mn, will establish core electrification infrastructure, including new electrical networks, transformer and distribution facilities, and shore power systems allowing vessels to connect to the port grid while berthed. It also covers a new connection to the main power station and grid, the rehabilitation of access roads, and 10 electric terminal tractors with charging equipment.
The second component, worth €46.2mn, covers additional electric equipment, including remotely operated electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes, two electric mobile harbour cranes and further electric terminal tractors.
