Taiwan endured another day of sweltering conditions on August 24, with the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reporting a peak temperature of 39.1°C in Sanxia District, New Taipei City, Focus Taiwan reports. The reading, taken at 3:10 p.m., was the highest recorded nationwide according to the report.
Other districts also experienced oppressive heat, with 38.1°C registered in Taipei’s northern Neihu district and 38°C in Wugu, New Taipei. Across the wider Taipei area and in the neighbouring county of Taoyuan, several monitoring stations confirmed temperatures surpassing 37°C.
The CWA has now warned that the extreme weather will persist into Monday, August 25, and some areas in the north of the country could once again reach 38°C. The same level of alert has been extended to Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, where temperatures of 36°C or above are expected to continue for consecutive days.
Meanwhile, Hsinchu and Miaoli have been placed under yellow alerts, which indicate daily highs could reach 36°C.
