North Macedonia’s GDP growth accelerates to 3.4% in 2Q25

North Macedonia’s economy expanded by 3.4% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, accelerating from 3% growth in the previous quarter (chart), preliminary data from the state statistical office showed on September 4.

The strongest growth was recorded in construction, which rose 7.3%, followed by wholesale and retail trade, transport, storage, accommodation and food services, up 6%.

Industrial activities including mining, manufacturing, energy supply, water and waste management increased by 3.9%.

Household consumption, which accounts for 68.5% of GDP, climbed 6.1% in nominal terms. Exports of goods and services increased 6.4%, while imports rose at a faster pace of 7.3%.

Seasonally and calendar-adjusted figures showed GDP rising 3.2% from a year earlier. Compared to the previous quarter, output grew by 0.9%.

The latest data point to a steady recovery of the Macedonian economy, supported by construction and services, but tempered by a widening trade gap.
