Bắc Ninh’s 2025 lychee season has set new records in both scale and value, with output surpassing 205,400 tonnes and revenue from fruit sales and related services exceeding $234mn, according to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade. Viet Nam News reported that the province’s harvest is now the largest on record.

The crop was divided into two main phases. Early-ripening lychees reached 75,300 tonnes, up nearly 28,000 tonnes on 2024, while the main harvest produced 130,100 tonnes, a rise of more than 92,000 tonnes. Fresh fruit remained the principal product, although part of the yield was processed into dried, frozen and canned forms.

Consumption was split between domestic and foreign markets. Within Vietnam, 127,200 tonnes — almost 62% of the total — were sold through wholesale outlets, supermarkets, e-commerce platforms and social media. Overseas sales accounted for 78,200 tonnes, of which China took 77,200 tonnes. The remainder was exported to the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the EU, Thailand and a number of countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Total earnings stood at more than VND6.2 trillion, equivalent to $234mn. Lychee sales themselves generated VND3.7 trillion, while a further VND2.5 trillion came from supplementary activities. Farmers also benefitted from additional sources of income, including honey production and rural tourism, which contributed to local socio-economic development.

Pricing reflected quality standards. Fruit grown under VietGAP and GlobalGAP certification achieved stable rates of VND25,000–35,000 per kilogram, often secured under contracts arranged before the harvest. Non-standard produce sold for far less, at VND5,000–15,000 per kilogram, and was mostly destined for processing.

Bắc Ninh also continued to lead the country in cultivation area, maintaining 29,700 hectares under lychee production. Of this, 27% was devoted to early-ripening varieties and 73% to the main crop. VietGAP-certified land expanded to 17,317 hectares, up more than 1,500 hectares compared with the previous year. GlobalGAP-certified farming almost doubled to 173 hectares, while organic lychee cultivation was recorded on 10 hectares.
