Initial reports indicate an aircraft has come down over Iran's Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz, Tasnim reported on July 24, saying the matter was under investigation.

The report gave no aircraft type, operator or indication of casualties, and Iranian authorities have not confirmed the incident. Qeshm sits at the mouth of the waterway Iran has held closed to unauthorised traffic since late February, and has been struck repeatedly during the conflict, including a reported attack on a desalination plant in March and projectile strikes on July 14 that Hormozgan provincial authorities attributed to US forces.

US Central Command said it began a 13th consecutive night of strikes on Iranian military targets at 18:45 Eastern time on July 23, with explosions subsequently reported around Ahvaz and at Bandar Abbas, which lies across a narrow channel from Qeshm.

Video purported to show the downed aircraft is now circulating on Persian-language social media channels and local news stations, these have not been verified by IntelliNews. 

Several explosions have been reported by citizens living on the southern island, which sits on the edge of the Hormuz Strait and has been heavily fortified in recent months since the last bout of skirmishes with the US and Israel. 

The deputy governor of Hormozgan Province said that, according to reports, two people have been injured in the US attack on certain areas of Bandar Abbas that occurred an hour ago.

The injuries were sustained during the US' attack on the "Allah Akbar" hill in Bandar Abbas .

The IRGC said in April it had shot down what it described as an advanced US or Israeli warplane south of the island, saying the aircraft fell into the Persian Gulf between Hengam and Qeshm.
