EE: Estonian strong alcohol sales up by 1.9% y/y in Q1.

Estonian domestic strong alcohol sales amounted to 2.0mn litres, which indicates 1.9% y/y increase in the figure, association of alcohol producers and importers indicates. Exports amounted to 1.3mn litres of strong alcohol in Q1, up by 29.4% y/y. Exports accounted for 40.7% in Q1. Janek Kalvi, head of the association indicated that the slow domestic market growth is mainly due to illicit alcohol market, and strong growth in weak alcohol drinks consumption. The association announced that comparing Q1 strong alcohol market to Q1/07 the market halved due to switch to the illegal alcohol market.
