National flagship Turkmenistan Airlines has confirmed its compliance with technical requirements related to air operations of Third Country Operators in the European Union (EU) thanks to a joint project with Lufthansa Consulting.
Following an on-site audit by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Ashgabat at end-September, EASA reauthorised the airline as a Third Country Operator on October 11, Lufthansa Consulting said in a press release on October 16.
In February, EASA suspended Turkmenistan Airlines' flights to and from the EU "pending confirmation that it meets international air safety standards". Following the blacklisting of the carrier, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) halted Turkmenistan Airlines’ flights from Birmingham and London's Heathrow to Amritsar, and from Heathrow to New Delhi. The flights fly via Ashgabat, the Turkmen capital.
Turkmenistan Airlines operates domestic and international passenger routes along with cargo services mainly via its hub at Ashgabat International Airport.
The airline transports over 5,000 passengers daily within Turkmenistan and nearly 3mn passengers annually on the international and domestic routes.
