US President Donald Trump said China had agreed not to send weapons to Iran in return for Washington's efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, posting on his Truth Social account on April 15.

"China is very happy that I am permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz. I am doing it for them, also - And the World. This situation will never happen again," Trump wrote.

Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping would "give me a big, fat, hug" during a planned visit in the coming weeks, adding that the two countries were "working together smartly, and very well."

The post offered no detail on what form the Chinese commitment on arms would take or whether it constituted a formal agreement. Beijing has not publicly confirmed any such deal.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of global oil supply passes, has faced severe disruption since the US-Iran war began on February 28. Shipping and energy markets have been rattled by the threat of prolonged closure, with Gulf states pressing Washington for a clear timeline on restoring safe passage.

Trump's claim that he was "permanently opening" the strait suggests Washington intends to use military force to guarantee shipping lanes regardless of whether a ceasefire is reached with Tehran.

The post ended with a characteristic warning: "BUT REMEMBER, we are very good at fighting, if we have to - far better than anyone else!!!"

The reference to a China visit aligns with earlier reports of planned Trump-Xi talks, though no date has been confirmed.

The social media post comes as Iran and American team are expected to continue talks over the weekend in Islamabad.
