Roaming for Iranian mobile operators in the United Arab Emirates has been suspended, cutting off Iranian residents and travellers from calls, text messages and banking codes tied to their home SIM cards, an Iranian technology outlet reported.

Allegedly affected users cannot make or receive calls, send or receive SMS, or use other roaming-based services on Iranian SIM cards while in the UAE, the report said, hours after an Iranian rocket allegedly struck the country.

One of the most damaging effects is the loss of banking messages and one-time passcodes, since many Iranian banking, financial and online services require a verification code sent to a number registered in Iran to log in or complete a transaction, CITNA reported.

The report, citing Iranian mobile operators, said the outage was not caused by a technical fault on the Iranian side but by a suspension of the roaming service by UAE operators, leaving Iranian carriers unable to restore it on their own.

Restoring service would require the Emirati side to reopen access, it said, and no timeframe has been given for when that might happen.

There was no confirmation from UAE operators, the country's telecommunications regulator or Emirati authorities, and the report did not name any UAE operator or cite an official Emirati statement. The account could not be independently verified.

UAE carriers barred Iranian nationals from entry and transit from April 1, and the UAE has reported repeated Iranian missile and drone salvoes against its territory over the past six months.

Several Iranians speaking with IntelliNews in recent weeks reported that residency visas have been revoked in several cases, with Emirati officials allegedly seizing accounts linked with Iranian companies with ties to the neighbouring country.
