The Serbian unit of Telekom Austria, Vip Mobile, improved its EBIT to minus EUR 12mn in the first six months of 2012 from minus EUR 15.5mn a year earlier, the parent company said in a statement. The Serbian operator's revenue jumped 15% on the year to EUR 75.5mn in Jan-Jun, lifted by higher contract subscriber number and higher usage. In the second quarter alone, Vip Mobile's EBIT improved by 22.7% as well to minus EUR 5.2mn as revenue rose 7.9% to EUR 38.2mn. The number of customers rose 12% y/y to some 1.69 million in the second quarter after Vip focused on postpaid customers. Vip's mobile market share rose to 16.5% at end-June from 14.7% a year earlier. Average revenue per user declined 2.6% y/y to EUR 7.1 in Q2 entirely due to negative foreign exchange translation effects. Vip competes with two other mobile operators on the Serbian market - state-controlled Telekom Srbija's mobile arm m:ts and Norway's Telenor local unit of the same name. Serbia's mobile penetration rate climbed to 139.1% at end-June from 138.4% a year earlier, Telekom Austria said. |
