Slovakias gross foreign debt rises 0.6% m/m in August 2012.

Slovakias gross external debt grew by 0.6% m/m in August 2012 to USD 66.73bn, following a 2% monthly decline in the previous month, preliminary central bank data showed. The increase came as a 5.3% monthly growth in the external debt of the government and a 4.5% rise in the debt of the non-financial sector offset an 8.5% fall in the debt of commercial banks and an 8.3% decline in the debt of the central bnak. On an annual basis, the countrys gross foreign debt dropped by 11.4% as of end-August, driven down by a 45.2% drop in the external debt of commercial banks and a 41.3% decline in the central banks debt, while the governments debt widened by 31.9%.
