Slovakia's industrial and construction production up in February

After a slight decrease in January, construction output in Slovakia amounted to €320.4mn in February 2019, up by 1.7% year-on-year and by 0.3% month-on-month. Industrial output rose by 5.6% y/y in February down from 7.2% in January, affected by an increase in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 7.1%, manufacturing by 5.5% and in mining and quarrying by 0.2%, according to the Slovakia´s Statistics Office data published April 10.

The production of domestic construction grew by 2.1% y/y, amounting to €301.6mn, with the share of total construction output swelling up by 0.4 percentage points (pp) to 94.1%. “Within domestic output, the volume of works in new construction, renewals and enhancements decreased the second month in a row, it dropped by 1.3 %, compared with February 2018,” the report read.

New construction and reconstruction output reached 70.8% of the total domestic production, down by 2.3pp y/y.

In 2M19 industrial production increased by 6.4% y/y, due to an increase in industrial manufacturing by 6.7%, supplies of electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning by 5.1%, and mining by 1.3%.
