Sirens sounded in various parts of Israel as the Israel Defense Forces confirmed that Iran launched missiles toward Israeli territory on February 28.

The Iranian response prompted nationwide escalation of Home Front Command protocols following a joint Israeli-US attack on Iran earlier in the day, with people taking cover in several locations.

Earlier in the morning, Israel and the US fired several ballistic missiles on several Iranian cities and military installations, including Pastuer in Tehran, the home of the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and offices of the Iranian President Masoud Pezshkian, who was reportedly unharmed in the attacks.

"A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel," the military stated, adding that defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat. The Home Front Command sent precautionary directives directly to mobile phones in affected areas.

Israel's security posture shifted dramatically in response, with all areas of the country moving from Full Activity to Essential Activity status.

The revised guidelines prohibit educational activities, gatherings, and non-essential workplace operations, representing one of the most comprehensive civilian restriction measures implemented during the current conflict.

This escalation reflects heightened assessment of Iranian strike capabilities and the potential scope of the incoming barrage.

"Past experiences prove that the public's strict following of protocol has saved many lives; the grit and responsibility of everyone are key elements in countering the threat," Home Front Command Major General Shay Kleper stated in a public address.

"Take the coming time to familiarise yourselves with and prepare the most optimal protected space near you. At this time, local authorities are opening public protected spaces for your use."

Several Israeli hospitals began operating in emergency mode, transferring patients to shelters, according to statements obtained by i24NEWS.

IDF troops have been dispatched and are prepared to operate to ensure public safety, Kleper confirmed, adding that adherence to Home Front Command instructions "saves lives."

Sirens have also been sounded in Jordan's capital Amman, according to reports from that city airspace in the country is closed.
