Report says explosion hit pipeline that delivers Turkmen gas to Russia, but Turkmenistan no longer sells gas to Moscow
Ukrainian outlet Kyiv Post on August 2 reported sources within Ukraine's Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) as stating that an explosion in Russia disabled a section of Gazprom's Central Asia-Center pipeline in Volgograd Oblast that transports natural gas from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan into Russia—however, as reported by bne IntelliNews last December, Turkmenistan no longer sells any gas to Russia after Gazprom opted to not renew a contract.
It appears that the Central Asia-Center pipeline is nowadays used by Russia to send gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan.
The GUR sources did not specify the cause of the explosion, but the outlet’s report added that the pipeline reportedly supplies several Russian defence industrial enterprises, including a MiG aircraft manufacturing facility and the Magnum-K ammunition plant.
This is possible, though the gas being supplied to the companies would be Russian, not Turkmen.
