The number of unemployed in Montenegro fell by 2.8% y/y to 31,266 as of end of April, the Employment Agency of Montenegro (ZZZ) announced. The number also dropped slightly compared to a week earlier when it stood at 31,433. The unemployment rate fell marginally over the week to 13.48% (0.07pps). The rate is also lower compared to a month earlier when it stood at 13.57%. The number of announced vacancies has reached 12,301 since the start of the year, down 7.7% y/y. In March, the agency started using active population figure from latest census (232,010), whereas previously, it used data from 2003 (264,276). This led to a substantial increase in the unemployment rate. We calculated the rebased unemployment rate as of end-2011 at 13.2%. This indicated that the unemployment in the country has increased since the start of the year. |
