Kuwait's low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways resumed direct international services from Kuwait International Airport (KIA) on April 27, ending 57 days of disruption at the country's main aviation gateway, Emerging Travel News reported on April 27.
The carrier operated six rotations to Beirut, Cairo, Istanbul and Mumbai from Terminal 5 between 08:00 and 16:00, carrying more than 2,000 passengers, the trade publication said, citing the airline. Services to Amman, Damascus, Delhi, Kochi, Jeddah and Riyadh are scheduled to follow this week, with 48 flights planned through 2 May.
The Beirut rotation was Jazeera Airways' first to the Lebanese capital since the closure of Kuwait International Airport.
"Today's departures from Jazeera Terminal 5 mark a defining milestone in our return to direct connectivity from Kuwait. This goes beyond the resumption of these six routes," Barathan Pasupathi, chief executive of Jazeera Airways, said in a statement carried by Emerging Travel News.
"It represents the restoration of direct connectivity for our community and a reaffirmation of our role in keeping people and essential supply chains moving from and to Kuwait," he added.
The airline is operating under a temporary procedural framework. Passengers must update their passport details 12 hours before departure and report to the airline's Park & Fly building four hours before their flight, before transferring to T5 by bus.
Jazeera Airways is also continuing connecting services via Dammam in Saudi Arabia from Kuwait International Fairgrounds Hall 8 in the Mishref district, providing an alternative routing corridor while T5 capacity remains constrained.
Pasupathi credited the Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Ministry of Interior and other government bodies for their support in restoring operations.
Kuwait International Airport, the country's primary aviation gateway, has been closed to commercial traffic since late February as part of broader regional airspace and infrastructure disruption tied to the US-Iran war that began on February 28. The closure has had cascading effects on Kuwait's tourism inflow, expatriate movements, transit cargo and the country's wider service economy.
Jazeera Airways is the largest low-cost carrier serving Kuwait and operates a network spanning the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Europe and the Caucasus from its KIA hub. The airline is listed on the Boursa Kuwait under the ticker JAZK and reported pre-conflict expansion plans across its leased fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft.
The country's flag carrier Kuwait Airways and foreign operators including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines and major Indian carriers had also suspended Kuwait services during the closure period.
Bookings on the resumed Jazeera Airways routes are available via the airline's website, mobile application and call centre, Emerging Travel News reported.
