Kazakhstan ratifies accord on military equipment and personnel transit.

Kazakhstan ratified an intergovernmental agreement with France for the provision of transit of military equipment and personnel through its territory in connection with French armed forces involvement in Afghanistan. According to deputy foreign minister Kairat Usmanov, the purpose of the agreement was to strengthen Kazakhstans role in promoting international efforts to rebuild Afghanistan. The minister also stressed that the ratification of the agreement would not lead to negative social, economic and legal implications as well as to additional budget costs.
