Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran's positions are completely clear and the country stands firm on them following the conclusion of the fifth round of indirect US-Iran nuclear talks that ended on May 23 after three hours with some but not "conclusive progress."

"This round of negotiations has been one of the most professional rounds of negotiations. We once again expressed the positions and principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the negotiations. Our positions are clear and we stand by them," Araghchi told reporters following the talks at an Omani diplomatic compound in Rome.

"Now we think that there is a better and clearer understanding of these positions on the part of the American side," he added.

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, who mediated the talks, announced they ended "with some progress, but without final conclusions."

"We hope to clarify the remaining issues in the coming days so that we can move forward towards the common goal of reaching a sustainable and honourable agreement," Albusaidi said.

Araghchi said the Omani Foreign Minister "tried to propose solutions to remove the existing obstacles and make progress. In this context, some ideas were put forward and it was decided that more expert work would be done by the two sides on the ideas and it would be transferred to the capitals, without any commitment to any party for the time being."

"Our goal is to examine these new solutions and suggestions that can possibly pave the way by preserving the principles and positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said technical-level negotiations continue despite the main session's conclusion, with Araghchi remaining engaged in discussions with his Omani counterpart.

Steve Witkoff, head of the American negotiating team, left the negotiation venue due to his flight schedule, but talks continue between the delegations with Omani facilitation, Baghaei said.

Before the talks began, US envoy Witkoff met in Rome with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and Mossad head Dedi Barnea to coordinate positions, according to an American source.

"The two sides are supposed to present their views on these proposals and solutions, and then the next round of negotiations will be scheduled. I hope that in the next round, if these solutions are considered in the capitals, we will be able to go into some details," Araghchi said.

"The negotiations are too complicated to end with two or three sessions. The fact that we are now on a reasonable path in these negotiations is a progress in itself, and we hope that in the next one or two sessions, we will be able to reach solutions and make progress in light of the better perceptions of Iran's positions on the other side."
