Iran confirms teleworking and leave options for working mothers

By bnm Tehran bureau January 21, 2025

Iran’s Administrative and Employment Organisation has reaffirmed regulations on teleworking and leave for employed women with young children, Borna reported on January 21.

The provisions remain in effect during the closures of primary schools and kindergartens, supporting working mothers who need childcare when these institutions shut due to air pollution, adverse weather or other emergencies.

According to a circular from Behnaz Mohebdi, Deputy for Planning and Coordination at the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs, the organisation confirmed that mothers may take paid leave or work remotely.

This circular was addressed to women and family affairs advisers in government agencies in response to concerns about childcare during school and nursery closures.

Under a Cabinet resolution dated 28 Esfand 1401 (19 March 2023), government bodies must offer flexible start times to couples who both work in the public sector and have children at preschool or primary level. Single mothers who are heads of households are also entitled to these benefits.

In addition, Article 84 of the Civil Service Management Law grants public sector employees 30 days of annual leave, which parents can use for childcare.

The organisation also clarified that the teleworking bylaw approved June 2000 remains in force for jobs that can be performed remotely.
