Annual inflation in Uzbekistan slowed to 6.2% in August versus 6.4% in July and 8.8% in August 2025, according to the national statistical committee.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.2% in August, compared with the 0.4% rise registered in the same month a year earlier. Since the beginning of 2026, consumer prices have risen 3.4%.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages made the largest contribution to the monthly increase in consumer prices, adding 0.16 percentage points (pp) to the overall CPI. Transport costs contributed another 0.04 pp, while lower prices in health-related goods and services reduced the monthly index by 0.01 pp.
From the beginning of the year to the end of August, housing services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, together with food and transport, accounted for the largest share of cumulative inflation. The three categories contributed 2.33 pp, or 68.3%, of inflation, while other categories contributed 1.08 pp.
Inflation excluding changes in fruit and vegetable prices stood at 6.6% y/y in August, compared with 9.6% a year earlier. On a monthly basis, the adjusted CPI increased by 0.2%.
Goods prices increased 0.3% m/m in August and 6.1% y/y, driven by a 6.2% annual rise in food prices and a 5.9% increase in non-food prices. Services inflation slowed further to 6.4% y/y, compared with 16.2% a year earlier, while monthly services prices rose 0.1%.
Among major segments, annual inflation reached 3.0% in clothing and footwear, 3.4% in health, 5.9% in information and communication, 7.2% in restaurants and accommodation services and 1.5% in education services.
Transport remained one of the key sources of price pressure. Gasoline prices increased 1.9% m/m and 20.2% y/y in August. AI-92 gasoline rose 1.1% over the month, AI-95 increased 4.9%, while AI-98 and AI-100 prices climbed 6.7%.
Propane (LPG) prices increased 5.8% m/m and 41.4% y/y, while methane prices remained unchanged from July but were 10.3% higher compared with August 2025.

Housing-related costs remained stable for regulated utilities in August, with no changes recorded in major utility tariffs. Actual rents increased 0.4% m/m and 4.2% y/y, while residential maintenance, repair and security services rose 0.3% m/m and 5.8% y/y.
Annual inflation varied relatively little across Uzbekistan’s regions. Tashkent city recorded the highest annual inflation rate at 6.8%, while the Syrdarya region recorded the lowest at 5.2%.
The committee also noted that the CPI calculation from January is based on an expanded basket of 517 goods and services, including 419 goods and 98 services, compared with 510 items previously. Price monitoring covers more than 2mn price quotations each month.
The official CPI continues to be calculated using the modified arithmetic Young formula, while a supplementary index based on the geometric Young formula is published for analytical purposes following recommendations from IMF experts.
