France's Bureau Veritas gets green light to assess Iranian automotive industry

By bne IntelliNews August 2, 2017

France's Bureau Veritas has been given the green light to inspect the quality of cars, agricultural machinery and mining trucks produced in Iran, the National Accreditation Centre of Iran (NACI) said on August 2.

Iran's industries are seeking stamps of international approval to boost their image in the post-nuclear sanctions era and have thus invited in several European organisations like Bureau Veritas and other quality inspection groups.

Bureau Veritas, which re-established its Iran office in 2017, previously verified the quality of an Iranian catamaran sold to Turkey in early July in what was an international first for the seller.

In June, the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines resumed cooperation with an international certification agency that ended its engagement with Iran in June 2012.

Prior to the resumed cooperation, Iranian ships were unable to dock at international ports as they had no safety and environmental standards verification from a leading global provider of compliance.
