Uzbekistan’s annual inflation in May amounted to 8.7%, the lowest rate recorded in the past 12 months, according to the state’s statistical agency.
The figure was down 1.4 pp from 10.1% in April.
Monthly inflation, however, rose sharply to 1.5% in May — more than double the 0.7% recorded in April.
Over the first five months of 2025, price growth reached 4.4%, with an average monthly rate of 0.9%, compared to 0.7% in the same period of 2023 and 1.1% in the same period of 2024..
In the food sector in May, prices fell by 0.8% m/m, driven by seasonal factors and the arrival of new harvests.
Annual food inflation stood at 6.5%, nearly 1 pp higher than in May 2024.
In the industrial goods segment, inflation stood at 1.7% m/m and 8.2% y/y.
Energy-related prices saw notable hikes: liquefied natural gas for households increased in price by 25%, and the price of methane for motor vehicles rose by 27%.
In the services sector, prices rose by 5.9% m/m and 15.9% y/y, making services the largest contributor to overall inflation.
The key drivers were an 18.8% average increase in electricity tariffs and a 39.2% rise in gas prices.
Transport prices increased by 1% m/m, with road transport up by 2.4% and rail transport very slightly higher at 0.1%.
However, domestic airfares dropped by 5.4% in price following a revised tariff grid introduced by Uzbekistan Airways.
