The number of foreign tourists staying at Hungary's public accommodation establishments increased by 5.1% y/y to 607,000 in Q1 2012, the statistics office informed. Overnight stays by foreigners increased by 7.7% y/y to 1.603mn in the period. The number of domestic tourist visits declined by 3% y/y and overnights were down by 2.6% y/y. The revenue of Hungarian accommodation facilities increased by 2.2% y/y to HUF 46.4bn (EUR 161.1mn) in the first three months of 2012. In terms of individual segments, the hotel sector accounted for HUF 43bn of the total revenue, up 3.1 % y/y. The average room occupancy in hotels increased only slightly to 36.4% in January to March 2012. |
