The European Union announced on May 27 an increase in humanitarian aid to Syria to more than €202mn for this year, SANA reported.
The additional funding will address urgent humanitarian needs across Syria, focusing on northeastern regions that have faced significant challenges during the country's transition period.
The EU mission to Syria said in a post on the X platform: "The European Union raised its humanitarian aid to Syria this year to more than €202mn, after allocating an additional €20mn to support basic needs in northeastern Syria, such as food and healthcare."
The European Union issued a decision on May 20 to lift all economic sanctions imposed on Syria.
The increased aid follows the EU's broader policy shift towards Syria after the change in government, including the lifting of economic sanctions that had been in place for over a decade.
Earlier, the EU announced that it had removed all sanctions on the new Turkish-backed Syrian regime in Damascus, following the collapse of the Assad regime in December 2024.
