The Czech economic sentiment indicator slightly increased in December 2012 due to improved confidence among both consumers and businesses, the statistics office said. The composite confidence indicator rose to 83.1 points in December from 82.2 points in November. Still, the index was by 1.9 points lower from a year ago. The business sentiment indicator increased to 84.6 points in December from 83.5 points thanks to improved confidence in industry, construction and trade, while the indicator in the services sector stayed nearly flat. The consumer confidence index increased to 75.7 points in December and was above last years level of 71.8 points. Consumers are a bit less pessimistic about the general economic situation in the next 12 months than they were in November. The share of consumers expecting an increase in the unemployment did not change compared to November and the share of Czechs planning to save money decreased.
