The profile that fits

We welcome applications from professionals with:

  • A strong background in journalism, preferably with a focus on business, economics or politics.
  • Proven experience in writing, editing or reporting.

Africa correspondent roles — three regions

We are a wire service covering economic, business and financial developments across emerging and frontier markets. We are currently recruiting part-time freelance correspondents for three African regions.

Part-time · Freelance
Freelance correspondent — Morocco & the Maghreb
Based in Morocco · covering Maghreb and wider North Africa

IntelliNews is looking for a part-time freelance correspondent based in Morocco to cover the Maghreb and wider North Africa.

Sectors

The successful candidate should have experience covering one or more of the following:

  • Macroeconomics and monetary policy
  • Banking and financial services
  • Energy and mining
  • Agriculture and food production
  • Tourism and hospitality

You should be comfortable analysing economic data, central bank decisions, government budgets, corporate earnings and market-moving political developments.

The role

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Produce accurate, fast-turnaround newswire copy
  • Identify the key story behind economic and financial data
  • Follow listed companies and market developments
  • Cover regional trends across the Maghreb and North Africa
Requirements
  • At least five years' experience in economics, finance or business journalism
  • Strong understanding of Morocco's economy and business environment
  • Knowledge of regional markets across the Maghreb and wider North Africa
  • Working understanding of French and Arabic

Freelance correspondent — West Africa
Covering Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and the wider ECOWAS region

IntelliNews is looking for a part-time freelance correspondent covering West Africa, including the major economies of Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and the wider ECOWAS region.

Sectors

The successful candidate should have experience covering one or more of the following:

  • Macroeconomics and monetary policy
  • Banking and financial services
  • Oil, gas and mining
  • Agriculture and food production
  • Telecoms, fintech and infrastructure

You should be comfortable analysing economic data, central bank decisions, government budgets, corporate earnings and market-moving political developments.

The role

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Produce accurate, fast-turnaround newswire copy
  • Identify the key story behind economic and financial data
  • Follow listed companies and market developments
  • Cover regional trends across West Africa and ECOWAS
Requirements
  • At least five years' experience in economics, finance or business journalism
  • Strong understanding of West African economies and business environments
  • Knowledge of regional markets across the ECOWAS bloc
  • Working understanding of French (an advantage for francophone coverage)

Freelance correspondent — Southern Africa
Covering South Africa and key markets across the SADC region

IntelliNews is looking for a part-time freelance correspondent covering Southern Africa, including South Africa and key markets across the SADC region.

Sectors

The successful candidate should have experience covering one or more of the following:

  • Macroeconomics and monetary policy
  • Banking and financial services
  • Mining, metals and energy
  • Agriculture and food production
  • Capital markets and corporate finance

You should be comfortable analysing economic data, central bank decisions, government budgets, corporate earnings and market-moving political developments.

The role

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Produce accurate, fast-turnaround newswire copy
  • Identify the key story behind economic and financial data
  • Follow listed companies and market developments
  • Cover regional trends across Southern Africa and the SADC bloc
Requirements
  • At least five years' experience in economics, finance or business journalism
  • Strong understanding of South Africa's economy and business environment
  • Knowledge of regional markets across the SADC region
  • Fluency in English (additional regional languages are a plus)
