Belavia Belarusian Airlines has received the second of three new Boeing 737-800 aircraft under efforts by the Belarusian flag carrier to renew and expand its fleet, its director general Anatoly Gusarov said on April 23.
Designed to carry 189 economy class passengers, the aircraft was purchased in operational leasing for five years under a contract with ALC. The latest acquisition has enabled Belavia to start regular flights between the Belarusian capital Minsk and the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan on April 29, the company said. Numerous other additions to the flight plan are also underway.
"In the summer we plan to use Boeing 737-800NG aircraft on the most popular regular routes, including Barcelona, Larnaca, Milan, Rome," Gusarov said. "In addition to flights to Morocco, we plan to operate charter flights to Antalya, Izmir, Thessaloniki and other popular resorts."
Belavia, headquartered in Minsk, serves a network of routes between European cities and the CIS, as well as some Middle East destinations. Employing more than 1,000 employees, passenger numbers have doubled in the last six years.
