Russia’s leading service of e-books and audiobooks Litres has announced it will operate in Uzbekistan, Kommersant has reported with reference to a representative of the company.
The Uzbek language version of the service's website has already started operation. At the time of launch the catalog included about 1,500 titles, and by the end of the year the company plans to expand to 4,000 electronic and audiobooks.
The Litres Group has signed contracts with 13 national publishing houses of Uzbekistan. Among them are such local market players as Asaxiy Books, Sharq, Adabiyot and Yangi Asr Avlodi.
CEO of the group Sergey Anuryev estimated the prospective volume of the e-book market in Uzbekistan at $4-5mn per year. "This is primarily facilitated by a large number of publishers represented on the market of traditional paper books – about 40," he said.
In December 2022, Litres entered the Azerbaijani market, before the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
