Turkey's Karsan (KARSN) has delivered an e-ATAK model autonomous electric bus to the city of Arbon in Switzerland, the company said on August 14.
The bus is the first autonomous Karsan vehicle delivered to the Swiss market. It will also become the first autonomous bus to operate in Switzerland.
Eurobus Ostschweiz AG, the bus operator in Arbon, will launch e-ATAK trips in autumn between the city centre and the Saurer Werk 2 neighbourhood.
The bus will serve a 2.5 kilometre (1.6-mile) road with nine stops. It will have a maximum speed of 30-km per hour.
e-ATAK is the first full length autonomous bus in the world. It is already in service in the US, Norway, the Netherlands and Finland.
In January, Karsan signed a €15.5mn contract, excluding value added tax (VAT), with ACaMIR, the operator of transportation services in Italy’s Campania region, to provide a total of 42 e-ATAK buses. The deliveries will be made within 2025.
In Italy, 250 Karsan electric buses are in service.
Also in January, Karsan signed a €10.9mn contract, excluding VAT, with the Constanta Municipality in Romania to provide 22 twelve-metre e-ATA buses and 29 charging stations. The deliveries will be made within 2025.
The number of Karsan electric vehicles serving in Romania will reach 525 at end-2025.
Additionally in January, Karsan signed a €11.5mn contract, excluding VAT, with Craiova Municipality in Romania to provide 22 twelve-metre e-ATA buses and 30 charging stations. These deliveries will also be made within 2025.
For 2025, the company is targeting an increase in its electric vehicle sales amounting to 30% y/y, taking sales to 700 units from 540 in 2024. It also intends to reach a worldwide electric vehicles network of 2,000 units in operation.
