Israel was hit by a barrage of missiles on the morning of March 1, with alerts sounding across Jerusalem, central, and southern regions. This comes after the IRGC swore revenge following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint Israel-US strikes on Tehran on February 28.

Iranian state media confirmed Khamenei's death, prompting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to vow intensified retaliation. "The crime will not go unpunished. The enlightened path of the martyred leader will continue until his last breath, and the Iranian army, as a strong fortress of the people, stands at the forefront of defending the independence, territorial integrity, and sacred regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the IRGC announced in a public statement.

The IDF confirmed that approximately 100 ballistic missiles have been fired at Israel from Iran, most of which were intercepted. So far, one Israeli woman in her 40s has been killed, while 25 have been injured from the missile barrages. Several direct hits on buildings were confirmed by Israel Police, with rescue teams on the ground in Tel Aviv in search of injured residents while also working to clear the rubble.

Leadership succession planning is already underway in Tehran. The Tasnim News Agency quoted former Vice President Mohammad Mokhabar stating that President Pezeshkian, Judiciary Chief Ajayi, and a Guardian Council member will manage the transitional period. The Iranian Fars News Agency announced that it will hold an interview with Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, sometime over the course of the morning of March 1.
